Meadowhall – Deconstruction

We worked on a £2.5million demolition and dismantle package at the Meadowhall Shopping Centre on behalf of one of our repeat customers.

Along with concrete demolition works we also dismantled and removed over 1km of steel service walkways and crossing bridges.

All of the dismantling was done using cold cut (no spark) techniques due to the close proximity of glass shop fronts and mall traders.

The video below shows one of the larger service bridges being removed in one piece for further dismantling on the mall floor.

The team had spent the previous two night shifts removing hand rails and checker plate decking to leave a skeleton structure spanning the malls.

Using two electric chain hoists positioned at each end of the bridge, the bridge was supported via chains onto the hoists. The supporting walkway structure was unbolted and the bridge was then cut from its hangers and lowered to the mall floor to be cut up and removed to skips.

The video captures the bridge as it is released from its hangers and lowered to the mall for final dismantle.
